25 March 2013

MOM! It's so good to hear from you. It feels like it has been forever since I last heard from you but in reality it was just a really crazy week. I don't think I could even attempt to write about everything that has happened. To start with - I am now in RENO. I love it. I thought that Elko was such a great ward and that the people there were so nice and I will always love Elko.  I have been in the Sierra Highlands for five days now and I already have no doubt that these member are even more enthusiastic about missionary work than Elko 5th was. This ward was covered by Elders previously.  The Elders also covered the Tongan ward and were SO busy! They were spread really thin with all the work there is to do.   The members in this ward are excited to have missionaries - and sisters to top it off!!  When we got here the ward missionaries had already talked to several less active families and knew for sure that they were willing to take the missionary lessons. There are like five families that we can potentially reactivate because the ward loves them enough to set it up for them. They're already fellowshipped and cared about. This is perfect!
So my new companion.... where to start.... She's one of those enthusiastic 19 year olds. Literally JUST turned 19 :) Next thing I should mention - I LOVE HER! I've gotten along with all of my companions, amicable relationships and all :p but my new companion?  Much more than amicable. Five days and I feel like we've been best friends for a lifetime. From day one I felt like I could just be me. Silly and goofy; like I usually am.  She loves to talk and has more energy than most people know how to deal with. In a good way of course :) I have never met someone so enthusiastic about missionary work before. We are going to be doing great things here!! I"m sure I'll tell you lots more about her as the transfer goes by.

All Thursday we spent trying to organize what information about the ward we do have and get put together in everything - like obtaining a map. That was important! So we were literally inside all but three or so hours of the day.  On top of that I had a pretty awful cold. I couldn't blow my nose fast enough, my throat hurt, and after a few hours my head felt like it was going to burst. DayQuil and Pulsatilla helped me function. (And now I am doing fine!).

Friday I had a leadership training in Sparks with all the other mission leaders. Which meant that we left our greenies with each other to fend for themselves for the day. They were all pumped and ready to hit the streets and work when we left. And hour or so later though they called somewhat frantically because my companion shattered a glass while doing the dishes. Oh, and there was a lot of blood! Two hours later - just as much blood. At first Sister Hermansen thought that it would stop on its own but I think two hours of bleeding is a bad sign. So, Sis. Hermansen left the meeting to take my companion to the doctor.  She is quite the trooper and she thinks of it more as an adventure than a burden. ACTUALLY we hold our pinkies up now whenever we think something great is going to happen because at the doctors office my companion got a referral from the doctor. A pretty solid referral :) I'll keep you updated on that!

Saturday... ugh! Saturday... We found out somewhat last minute that we would be hosting a mini-mission. Meaning we would be given two potential sister missionaries (seniors in high school) for a whole day. We needed to divide our work into two so that we could accomodate four missionaries and we needed to help them get a feel for mission life so they could determine if that was what they wanted to do. AH! We don't even know this area let alone have lessons or investigators...I honestly felt like crying throughout the day because I felt like such a failure. I'm senior companion. And I'm training. All three of them were looking up to me to know what to do and I was just as lost as they were. :s So, needless to say, My companion and I were quite humbled when we dropped off the young sisters and got back to our regular routine. We recognized that if anything was going to happen it would be all the Lord's doing. So we went to work. And that night we found and set THREE appointments for this week. :) It turned out alright in the end.
