This post is 1 day before S. Alexis' birthday.
***************************************
This was one of those interesting weeks. It was very stressful and exhausting but we saw a lot of great things happen.
On
Tuesday my companion and I went tracting. Except we like to call it
dooring because that's what our bishop here calls it and that word
sounds so much less intimidating for some reason lol. It means we walked
down streets knocking on every single door. We aren't really encouraged
to do a lot of that because the most ideal way to find investigators is
through members. But we don't have very many investigators! So we were
willing to try anything. Both of us prayed a lot leading up to Tuesday
tracting. And we actually became very excited for it. So we did that for
THREE hours on Tuesday and we found three return appointments for
ourselves and two new investigators for the Spanish elders!! I think
that is a success! We didn't teach a single lesson that day. But it's
not about the numbers it's about the people.
And then Wednesday started quite the adventure as well! Involving
the loss of our car :s The wheelbarrow incident is under repairs. And my companion and I are WALKING. Our ward is huge. If we walked from
our home to the far end boundary of town it would surely take 2 hours!
And that isn't even counting the little bit we have that takes a full
hour to drive to!! It is frustrating to not have a car. But we still
found a lot of success. A good thing about it is that when we're walking
there are definitely more people to talk to. Haha one such person was a
very drunk man. He
kept trying to get us to come into his house for his "biblia and Jesus"
We were kind of wary of that because he was a drunk. Finally his
daughter came and we were able to talk to her. It was really funny
because he was drunk but it was really frustrating because he knew no
English and we knew no Spanish (except como estas? And that got him
rambling in Spanish! We also found a new potential investigator. Her
name. Her husband is a
member but long time inactive. They both seem interested in learning
more :)
Then we had a lesson with!! The whole lesson was on baptism and
receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. When we asked her if she would be
baptized she said 'yes' as if that was the only obvious thing to do. I
love her so much. She has such a powerful testimony of Jesus Christ and
of the strength that she can receive through the atonement. She will be
baptized on April 5th. I probably wont be here but I am thrilled that
she is making this decision anyways! We also saw her at church
yesterday, So Sunday was amazing for that reason :)
Another investigator has read all of 1 Nephi already and into 2 Nephi. She is on a
roll! She has even shared passages she likes with her dad. I believe
that one day her whole family will accept the gospel. They are such a
close family and they all seem to have so much faith! (she has to have
more faith than anyone I know. she impresses me every single time we
talk to her!)
The less actives we have been working with have been having a rough
time. One family is often so busy they can't meet with us or even go
to church. We haven't seen the M. family at church for a while and this
week was so busy they also canceled. One LA's cat died - and she was so
close to her cat. that animal has been the only living thing that loved
her unconditionally throughout her life. Another LA has been in the hospital
for two weeks (for heart conditions and depression). Just found out
today that another LA is going to the hospital in Reno for brain abrasions
that are bleeding :s , and another family are fighting a court case to not have
their dog put down (because it barked and chased another dog- no biting
involved).
It's been quite the week! And now we're starting into another :) I
am super excited for my birthday. Everyone here is making it to be such a
special day. The only thing better would be if I could celebrate it
with you and the rest of the family and Heath!
Anyways, I love you all. I hope you get to feeling better soon mom!
