Something really neat that I get to do as sister
training leader is to go on exchanges with other sister missionaries in
this area. Well this week, I went with the spanish hermanas. I learned a
few valuable life lessons. 1. I really don't know spanish! :p All I
could do was smile and pray. But at the same time, I always knew exactly
what was going on. 2. (and this one is much more valuable) it doesn't
matter which language someone is speaking, when the Spirit is there,
everyone can feel it. The moment the spanish member started bearing her
testimony to Rosa who is less active, the Spirit was SO strong. I don't
know what she said, but I know it was true. All I could do was smile and
pray. And that's exactly what I did.
On Saturday we really connected with a less active sister.
I'm not sure what all I have told you about her. She has a very neat
story full of ups and downs, And it is so much like our family! On
Saturday we went to an orchestra performance that her son was in (he is a
music prodigy! he plays every type of instrument and loves it! but his
specialty is cello. and he's good! he is 16 btw). Then as she was
driving us back to our area she opened up about her first marriage. He
joined the church after they got married and her three sons were then
sealed to them a few years later. But then not long after they were
sealed he attached himself to another woman and they got a divorce. She
told us that the temple sealing is still valid and she doesn't want to
get a temple divorce solely because of her three sons. Because so long as
she is righteous, they are still sealed to her. She is remarried now
though and has two younger children with him. He isn't a member and she
wont push him to be because she doesn't want him to join for her like
her first husband did. She is so sweet and has a powerful testimony, she
just struggles doing everything by herself. I really hope we can help
the whole family. She has said that husband already has changed a lot and
that he truly does ponder everything we say. And her younger two kids
are much calmer since we have started visiting them. I really love that family.
(plus they remind me so much of mine!! They even have a dog named Zoey!)
Then that night... coolest thing ever! A fireside
with Dallin H Oaks! He's different at firesides then he is at
conference. He is
definitely a top favorite now. :) Oh... and I got to shake his hand :)
How awesome is that!? And our referral came! He loved it. He loves everything
we teach actually. He has definitely progressed a TON in the last two
weeks. It seems like years' worth of progress but it literally was two
weeks ago tomorrow. Crazy huh? I supposed that is how the Spirit works
on people. After all, as missionaries, our job is to point them towards
Christ and then get out of the way. That is what we're doing with him.
Also got a new investigator that we are going to
start working with. She was another referral from a young
couple in another ward. She works with him and one day was talking about
the bible and mentioned how she wanted to get one. Most members in that
instance would probably say "oh I can get you one" and then they'd get
it, give it to her, and leave it at that. Bro. Simpson however explained
where he could get one and then explained the Book of Mormon and asked
if the missionaries could bring a copy of each by. Then he came with us
to do that. She wouldn't have let us in if it was just us! But she
really does seem genuinely interested. We will see her again on Sunday
:) I'm excited for her! So that was our awesome week. Of course there
were other things in there too that just made it amazing (like having
two investigators and seven less active members at church!! People who
would not have been there had it not been for my companion and I sharing
our testimonies with them and inviting them to act.)
I hope everything is going well at home. I have
missed you all a lot recently. Since Mother's Day really. After I got
off [skype] I just felt like there was so much more I had wanted to tell you.
But I think I would have felt like that no matter how long I was on
talking to you.
Have a great week. I love you all!!
