We got our first letter.

9-19-2012

Dearest Mom,

I am here and I am fine.  Very tired, but I am great :-)
The airport was very crazy.  When I finally got to my gate, which was forever and a day farther than I thought it would be.  I sat for like two minutes and was immediately boarding.  I wish I hadn't been so rushed.  But I want you to know that I love you an incredible amount!  I'm so grateful to you and all the things you taught me.  I know it will come in handy every day of my mission.  You will always be in my thoughts and prayers :-)
My companion is Sister Mcelory... I haven't quite mastered the pronunciation.  It's deceiving... But I think it's like:  Mac-ell-or-ee.  Haha, maybe.  She's very sweet :-) She's also going to Reno as well ad another roommate-Sister Briggs.  She is from Tennessee and has only been a member like a year and a half.  But she has a great testimony and I know she will do great :-)

The MTC is HUGE.  I was imagining like one big building and like two dorm buildings.  Not true.  There are like 16 buildings!  It's as big as a college campus!  Fortunately, our bedroom is in 3m, our classes are in 4m, and food and meetings are in 1m and the store/post office is in 2m.  Everything I need is in one little clump.

When I first got here, two Elders rushed over to help me with my bags.  When I found out they were going to Milan Italy, I told them about my friend going there.  Her name is Kendra Durfee.  Less than a minute later, I was with her and she was showing me around.  Then I saw my other friend at dinner.  It turns out that she is my zone leader.  Oh the irony :-)  I'm so grateful to see familiar faces in the midst of all this new.  That was a great blessing.

Everything has been go go go since the Denver airport.  Now... I'm tired!  I don't think bedtime could come soon enough, lol.

Dear mom (and family)
Our MTC president told us...made us promise really that we would write our mothers right away so that's why these are addressed as such.  But I love you all equally and you all can read this :-)

I already feel like I've been here for weeks and it's barely been a full day.  We keep so busy and so focused.  I love my new district for that!  And I've learned so much.  Not really knowledge about the gospel.  We mostly focus on the Holy Ghost and I am definitely learning how to better feel Him guiding and inspiring me.

We are so blessed!  to have the atonement so readily and freely offered to us.  I can definitely feel Christ's love for me... and everyone... as I study and ponder and pray.

One video in particular was very special to me.  Search for it on you tube or LDS.org  "Mormon Messages:  Lifting Burdens".  Maybe use it as a quick Family Home Evening.  Think about it from a missionary's perspective.  It really helped me feel Christ's love for me :-)

Oh and if you're ever wanting for something to write.  I'd love that whole message typed or handwritten.  I love poetry, short stories with good morals taught in them or just a synopsis of your day.

Hello again!

Day 4 is done!  OOOps... I mean 3.  haahaa time is funny here because I'm learning so much.  I never thought I'd feel the Holy Ghost so strongly all the time.  It's the most amazing feeling ever!

I want you to know--life is crazy busy here.  I want to write more, I really do.  But there is so little time to do so.  I'm fully dedicating myself to my investigators now and forever.  Everything I do is for them.  I love them so much already, despite not knowing them.  Is that strange.  I will email for 30 minutes on Wednesday--my P-day.  I won't get more time like Sister Ashley did because there are thousands of people here.  Please let the ward members know I can't take alot of writing time.

I love you immensely,
Alexis

p.s.  I get dear elder EVERY day :-)  it's great!
